In 1811 James Dixon took on a partner in the firm and it became Dixon & Smith. In 1822 the company moved to Cornish Place and became Dixon & Son, becoming Dixon & Sons in 1835. In 1879 the famous trumpet and banner mark was granted. In the 1920s the firm also began to produce cutlery under the Staybrite and Firth names. In 1930 J Dixon & Sons absorbed the firm William Hutton &
